I just subscribed to the Renee Patrick Books newsletter, drawn in by their  Golden Age of Hollywood series, featuring legendary costume designer Edith Head and aging actress Lillian Frost.

Renee Patrick is the pseudonym for married authors Rosemarie and Vince Keenan. Rosemarie is a research administrator and a poet. Vince is a screenwriter, journalist, and editor-in-chief of Noir City magazine.

Their series setting is Los Angeles in the 1930s, described this way: once-aspiring-actress Lillian Frost meets Edith Head during a murder investigation. Blending fact and fiction, Design for Dying, Dangerous to Know, and Script for Scandal feature “two smart, resourceful heroines and starry cameos around every corner,” says Edgar Award-winning author Megan Abbott.

In return for subscribing, I got a terrific NOIRCITY essay with piles of yummy noir fashion photos of Edith Head’s design work on women in noir film–Veronica Lake, Barbara Stanwyck, Grace Kelly, Kim Novak. And the stories behind the fashion? Better. If you’d like to see them, subscribe. That essay worked. I’m ordering the series now.

If you’d rather not miss any Jane Benjamin Novel updates, subscribe to the newsletter. New subscribers will receive a free ebook of Copy Boy. Through January 31, 2022, new subscribers will be eligible to win a free paperback advance reader copy of Tomboy before publication.
