Proofreading’s a metaphor for life. I know. You’re rolling your eyes. But wait. I’ve been proofing Tomboy before advance reader copies go to the printer. (The last big step before June publication.) You’d think I wouldn’t find any problems at this point. I mean, it’s been read by beta readers, critique group readers, two copy editors, a proofreader, and me (many many many times).

Still, we’ve found missing commas, misspelled names, wrong street addresses, incorrect chapter headings. I bet we could proofread this manuscript for ten years and keep finding errors. Proofing the cover in a Word file, it looked just perfect. But in a PDF of the actual cover? What a nightmare. In version four of the cover we were still finding text problems. What’s a person to do?
