I knew I should be working on book three, but I didn’t have the attention span for it. So I obsessed instead on investigating where The Jane Benjamin Novels can be found in libraries–an interesting project (to me, anyway).

I went to a website called worldcat.org, looking for the libraries where a book can be found. I was surprised my hometown of Sacramento did not have a copy in any of its libraries. Then I looked up the Sacramento Libraries’ own website and found that yes, it does have print, ebook and audio copies available. They were just not reported via worldcat.org.

So that led me to do further snooping. For instance, UC Berkeley, Princeton University, Chinese University of Hong Kong and even Chief Dull Knife College’s Woodenlegs Library, in Lame Deer, MT, carry Jane Benjamin books. But the three universities where I have taught–San Francisco State, Sacramento City College, and Sacramento State University–do not. Nor do my hometown library systems in Bakersfield or Wasco, California. Nor does my alma mater, Claremont McKenna College.

Of course this lit a real procrastination flame in me. I’ll be visiting these places soon to ask if they won’t–pretty please–invite Jane in. You know she hates to be on the outside looking in. Especially outside the library. We both learned to love reading in libraries before we fell in love with bookstores.

Below are some of the Jane-friendly library locations I could find. (Please let me know if you are aware of a library I didn’t discover on my procrastination day.)
